Migration
Reiter
While Soviet times were characterised by hugh number of Soviet citizens moving to Kazalkhstan and other Central Asian countries, the net migration in the 1990th was negative with people leaving the country. In the early 2000th the situation started to change and Kazakhstan became a destination mainly for low-skilled workers from Krgsyztan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, while well eduacted Kazakhs still seek to work abroad. Since the Russian war of agression against Ukraine, Kazakhstan, which is a member state of the Eurasian Economic Union, has become a destination for Russian fleeing from their home country's war. During the first two weeks of the mobilization in September 2022, about 300,000 Russians came to Kazakhstan. In addition, there is considerable inner Kazakh migration from the poor countryside to the cities offereing petter prospects in life.
